As of right now you can jailbreak any device that is running iOS 6.1 regardless of whether or not it has an A6, A5X, A5, or A4 chip. That’s right, you can now perform an untethered jailbreak on your iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1. The Evad3rs dev team released the jailbreak today and it can be downloaded here: http://www.evasi0n.com/ . CLICK FOR UPDATE The claims of a 5 minute Jailbreak were consistent with my results on an iPhone 5. Always be sure to backup your device before attempting any form of jailbreak. They also advise to disable the lock code as it can cause issues.

While I am not a fan of iPhone cases, I find phone bumpers to be completely acceptable. In fitting with that opinion, here is my review of the Ringke Steel Bumper for the iPhone 4S by Rearth. While they claim that this bumper will only fit the 4S, it will also fit the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 that was released for Verizon. It consists of a stainless steel band and a silicone insert and that it is. Installation is very easy and the most appealing aspect is that it will match your new iPhone’s stock look while providing some lay down protection. To install the Ringke Steel Bumper, take the silicone bumper and wrap it around your phone. The silicone part is quite loose so you must ensure that you line up the buttons and openings perfectly. The steel portion of the bumper is two separate pieces. First you place the larger, top portion over the silicone. While holding the top in place, insert the lower portion into one side of the top and wrap it around the bottom of the phone. To get the bottom to lock into place you must push quite hard. After it is installed, this bumper isn’t going anywhere. The fit is extremely tight and quite elegant. The silicone portion of the bumper sticks out enough to provide protection for both the front and the rear in case you want to lay your phone down. I would still recommend front and rear screen protectors to prevent any scratches. I highly recommend the MediaDevil Magic Screen Crystal Clear Edition if you are looking for high quality name brand screen protectors. If you need help installing your screen protectors we have a how-to video that will show you How to Reuse or Install a Screen Protector. Unfortunately, there is a downside to the Ringke Steel Bumper for the iPhone 4S. The mechanism that attaches the top and bottom steel bands is not flush and actually sticks out from the side of the phone. While testing the bumper, it was constantly getting caught in my pocket. For this reason we rate the Ringke Steel Bumper for the iPhone 4s a 4 out of 5 stars.

Pairing the Satechi Wireless Bluetooth Speaker is easier than you think. You may have tried Bluetooth devices in the past that were difficult to pair but this isn’t the case anymore. In fact it is downright easy. After you make sure that Bluetooth is enabed on your device, simply press and hold down the power button on the Satechi Wireless Bluetooth Speaker. Your device will locate the speaker and automatically connect, prompting a password screen. A default password of 0000 works every time, and you are ready to go. Pairing any device with an iPhone is this easy. The hardest part is making sure your Bluetooth device is in pairing mode and not just on. That’s it – easy.

Users trying to update their compatible iDevices to iOS are still having difficulties. Over the air updates are suffering from a significant amount of errors, with the update being unable to even download. Your best bet as of right now is to try updating through iTunes. As of the time of this article we have tried updating two iPhone 4s, four iPhone 4, and three iPad 2 over the air in multiple locations without success. While inconvenient, we have been able to update through iTunes.

Apple is renown for pushing out software updates in a timely manor. Most of the time they get it right but with iOS 5.1 many people are having problems. The sheer quantity of people trying to access Apple’s servers is grinding things to a halt. Updating over Wifi is almost impossible right now. You may have better luck updating through iTunes but that would mean you are one of the few who still connects their iPhone or iPad to a computer. We will try and keep you updated as best we can but until then you are on your own.

iPad 3 Apple Inc. had their annual spring iPad release event today, and while some may be a little disappointed, Apple managed to live up to the hype with the new 3rd generation iPad. The numerical indicator is gone. Much like what they did with iPods, Apple has begun to refer to iPads by their generation, rather than including the number in the name. To make things easier I will still call it the iPad 3 though. Everything about the iPad 3 is good news. Retina display? Check. 4G LTE? Check. Quad-core processor? Check. A 5 mp camera? Check. The ability to record 1080p video? Check. The iPad three gives us everything we could have hoped for. When images leaked of the new A5X processor, many were afraid that it would only be a rehash of the A5. They even started calling it the iPad 2s in comparison to the disappointment that was the iPhone 4s. Boy were they wrong. The A5X is indeed a quad-core chip and with it comes a 4x increase in graphic performance, while still maintaining the amazing 10 hour battery life. The new Retina display, with more pixels than any mobile device that has ever been shipped, is supposed to be as good at 15 inches from your eyes as the iPhone’s display is just 10 inches from your eyes. With 44% greater color saturation and a million more pixels than your 1080p TV, the new Retina display is enough of a reason to get into your car or go online and buy an iPad 3 as soon as you can. The new iSight 5 megapixel camera is a welcome feature. I still don’t want to see people walking around taking pictures with their iPads in public, but for Facetime use this new camera will make showing people what you are seeing incredibly better. If you want to discount the camera for not being the 8mp one found in the iPhone 4s just remember that the camera in the iPad 2 was 0.7mp. Being able to record video in 1080p is a huge step forward with the iSight camera as well. The new iPad 3 also comes with dictation. The button and graphics are the same as Siri, but on the iPad 3 it will only be used for turning your words into text. This new dictation feature even works with third-party apps like Facebook and Twitter. Software With the release of the iPad 3, Apple has decided to round out the iLife for iOS family and brought iPhoto to the iPad. In one step Apple has put all the other photo processing apps out to pasture. iPhone for iOS just works. Everything you want it to do, it can, and with the ease of use and the polish you expect from something released by Apple. Apple TV HD The Apple TV announcement is where some people were disappointed. Personally, I was ecstatic. Essentially the Apple TV is unchanged from the 2nd generation with two exceptions. First, there is a new updated User Interface (UI) that is absolutely gorgeous, and second, the Apple TV is now a true HD device with the ability to output 1080p content thanks to its A5 chip. Many people were hoping the new Apple TV would be a television rather than a set-top box. I have always said this was a bad idea and it seems that Apple agrees with me. People don’t like smart TVs. People only want one thing from their television and that is an amazing picture. By making the Apple TV a add on box, Apple has ensured that it can get into the hands of more consumers. At still just $99, the new Apple TV HD could be a huge success. With hundreds of millions of people owning Apple iOS devices, the ability to stream your content directly to your television with AirPlay is amazing. Owners of the second generation will be able to upgrade to the new UI but will be unable to stream 1080p content. Reviews When these devices are released, we will be able to provide you with in-depth reviews but until then you can just drool along with us.

I don’t know if I could go back to being normal and mundane; you see I rather enjoy my super powers. Was I blessed with them from birth, or bitten by a radioactive bug? No, I came by my super powers in a much more ominous and sinister way. I bought them! (Mwahaha!) With a one-time fee and a small monthly service charge, they said even I, a mere mortal, could have fantastical powers. The ability to communicate vast distances instantly? You bet! Access to the cumulative knowledge of the ages? Of course! Needless to say I was hooked, and within minutes I could feel the power coursing through my finger tips. New iPhone in hand I walked out of the Apple store a new man. Driving through the Mojave in my convertible with the top down, radio turned all the way up, and going at least 30 mph over the speed limit, I pondered what to do with my new found powers. Should I help damsels in distress or save babies from burning buildings? Nah, not really my style. I guess being evil was just more convenient for my already established lifestyle. I can see you now, sitting there all smug with your regular little cell phone wondering how on earth could something as small as an iPhone grant me the powers of a super villain. You must expand your mind to even grasp all the possibilities. Flight? Sure! A few flicks of my fingers and I’m online booking a flight for a quick getaway. Secret encrypted communication? Duh! Us super villains need to keep in touch to coordinate our attacks on those meddling superheroes (and their dogs too!). The iPhone gives us the perfect trifecta: Voice, MMS texting, and Email. What more could you ask for? Having an iPhone even gives you access to news and current events, making it even easier for us super villains to track the progress of our dastardly deeds from the safety of our evil lairs. The big screen makes it great for watching videos too. That way you can go on YouTube and watch how-to videos from the other super villains so you don’t make the same mistakes they did, or I guess you could just watch videos of people making idiots of themselves. Is there really anything more evil than laughing at other people’s misfortune? I suppose you could use an iPhone for good if you wanted (I’m not really sure why anyone in their right mind would want to though.). I guess you could use the built in GPS to go geocaching with your hippy superhero friends. Everybody knows superheroes are the original tree hugging eco-warriors of the world. You could even get rid of your home computer and reduce your electricity use. You never know, you might just win a Nobel Prize for saving the rainforest or something! I was able to donate my evil super computer to a school for super villains in training. The money I saved on my energy bill allowed me to hire three more evil minions! (Obligatory Mwahaha!) I guess that would mean iPhones are even powerful enough to stimulate the economy. As a superhero, you could use an iPhone to “stimulate” your boring conversations; with access to everything on the internet you’ll always have something new and interesting to talk about. The League of Super Evil Random stuff (LoSERs for short) would have my head if they knew I was disclosing one of our biggest secrets, but it’s time for the truth to be told. The iPhone is a great source of power in this world; unlocking abilities few mortals have ever dreamt of. It has changed almost every aspect of my life, and could do the same for you if given the chance. No, it won’t fold your laundry or do the dishes, but it will change your day to day life without you even noticing. You’ll respond to emails faster because you have an internet connection wherever you have a signal (that means no more carrying around that big clumsy laptop of yours). Relying on poorly written directions, or things stuck to your dashboard, will be a thing of the past thanks to the built in GPS and turn by turn directions. The chat style texting is a lifesaver, no more accidentally sending that really embarrassing text to the wrong person ever again (perfect for all you multitaskers out there like Anthony Weiner!). In the end it’s really up to the individual. Good or evil, boring or super, it doesn’t really matter how you choose to live because an iPhone can still help you do it. Even super villains need mild mannered alter-egos. Could you imagine if my in-laws knew I was a super villain? I would never hear the end of it! (Ok bad example. I already don’t hear the end of it, but I digress.) I still go grocery shopping, check up on my teenage daughter, and take pictures of my dogs when they do hilarious things, and post them on the internet for all my relatives to see. Having an iPhone might not really give you superpowers. You may not use it for evil-doing or damsel-saving, but nevertheless one day you may wake up feeling a little more extra-ordinary.

Do you remember what life was like before the iPhone, probably not? The reason you don’t remember is why the iPhone has become the iconic image that it is today. You don’t remember because you don’t want to. Most people had regular phones back then. Sure, someone you knew might have had a Blackberry or Palm but they were the exception not the rule. Everyone bragged about their amazing new ringtone, that sounded like it came right out of a midi machine or maybe their phone had a blue back-lit keypad. Nobody talked about the internet, nobody. Some phones could access the internet but today we would laugh at what passed as the internet back then. Nobody talks about life before the Apple iPhone just like most people don’t talk about life before shoes. Yes I just compared an iPhone to shoes but hear me out. The iPhone was not a niche product. It was a great leap forward for mankind. Infinitely more important to our everyday lives than a man walking on the moon. Now don’t get me wrong, NASA has done some amazing things, but if I had to choose between a Tempur-Pedic and an iPhone, I would choose the iPhone every time. The iPhone ushered in a new era for mankind, an era where we were truly unencumbered by the bonds of wires and cables. The iPhone made us all Superheroes. We all have access to the entire sum of human knowledge right at our fingertips. This is why the iPhone is like a shoe. Once mankind started wearing shoes, there was no going back. Sure there are hippies out there like Cody Lundin who doesn’t wear shoes, but I really don’t see this as a trend. He hasn’t worn shoes for 20 years. This isn’t some gimmick for him. For the sake of my argument, he is the person you know that still doesn’t own a mobile phone. I’m not going to go back to the way life was before the iPhone and if you are reading this you probably won’t either. People can argue and nit-pick all day as to whether or not the Apple iPhone was evolutionary or revolutionary all they want, it doesn’t matter. What matters is the enormous impact it has had in our lives. The other day I saw a guy walking around with a shirt that said “The iPhone has changed the way I poop.” At first I just marked him up as a hipster, but then I started to think about it. He probably really was just a hipster but whoever designed that shirt had his thinking cap on that day. He was right! Whether or not you have an iPhone, you certainly have benefited from its existence. You might have an Android or Windows 7 phone. You might have an iPad, Kindle Fire, or any of the other numerous iPad clones in existence. Hell, you might have just been out to dinner and wondered what something was when your friend pulled out his own smartphone and told you the answer. Never since the completion of the Manhattan Project, has something of this magnitude been created. All of the attempts to capitalize upon the success of the iPhone have failed to accomplish the same level of penetration Apple has. Part of this is that the iPhone came first. Unseating a king is hard. The other part is in the name. Apple iPhone, it just rolls of the tongue. Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4g Touch…..not so much. If you want to know how the iPhone changed the world, all you have to do is look around.
